Animals Around Us

Singapore is not just a city of buildings — it is also home to many animals that live right alongside us. Some can be found in parks, trees and even near our homes.

You might spot otters swimming in rivers and reservoirs, playfully diving and chasing one another. They have become a familiar sight in many parts of Singapore.

Look up into the trees and you may see mynah birds, known for their loud calls and curious nature. They are often seen hopping around in search of food.

In greener areas, you might come across a monitor lizard. These large reptiles move slowly and quietly, usually near water.

If you are lucky, you may even see a hornbill, with its large curved beak, flying from tree to tree.

Butterflies, squirrels and small insects can also be found almost everywhere, adding life and movement to the environment around us.

These animals remind us that nature is always close by, even in a busy city. By observing them, children can learn to appreciate and care for the world around them.
